Creating Notes

Click the + button in the toolbar, or click “Add a note” in the empty state. New notes are named automatically using the configured prefix (default: “Noted 1”, “Noted 2”, etc.). The numbering fills gaps, so if you delete “Noted 2”, the next note created reuses that number.

Auto-Loading

When you open Noted, it automatically loads the most recent project note. If the current project has no notes, the editor shows the empty state with an “Add a note” button.

Renaming

Click the note name in the toolbar to rename the current note. Press Enter to confirm or Escape to cancel. You can also rename from the note viewer by clicking the pencil icon on any note card.

Names are unique within each scope. If you rename a note to a name that already exists, Noted appends a number to make it unique.

Duplicating

In the note viewer, hover a note card and click the copy icon. This creates a new note with the same content and an incremented name.

Deleting

In the note viewer, hover a note card and click the trash icon. If you delete the currently active note, Noted falls back to the most recent remaining project note. If no project notes remain, the editor returns to the empty state.

Project Notes vs. Library Notes

Notes have two scopes:

  • Project notes are saved inside the After Effects project file. They exist only in that project and travel with the .aep.
  • Library notes are saved to disk independently of any project. They persist across all projects and AE sessions.

Saving to Library

In the note viewer, hover a project note and click the library icon. This copies the note to the library. The original project note remains unchanged.

Adding to Project

In the note viewer, click a library note (or its folder-input icon) to copy it into the current project. The library copy remains unchanged.

Sorting

The note viewer sort dropdown offers three modes:

SortOrder
Date createdNewest first
Date modifiedMost recently edited first
AlphabeticalA to Z

The sort applies to both the Project and Library sections independently.

Switching Notes

Click any project note in the note viewer to switch to it. The viewer closes and the editor loads the selected note.
