Drop an image on the panel and Painted mixes the paint in a second or two. The preview shows the finished painting. Play it or drag along the bar to watch it build: bare primer first, then big brushes, then finer and finer ones.
When it looks right, click Paint. Painted builds every stroke into a new comp as shape layers animated with Trim Paths, ready to retime, recolor, or rip apart.
Who This Is For
Motion designers and editors who want a hand-painted reveal without painting by hand. Painted is great for title cards, painted backgrounds, portrait reveals, and transitions. Because the output is shape layers and not a rendered effect, it also suits anyone who likes to pull a result apart and rebuild it.
How It Works
- Brushes, fat to fine. Painted paints in passes. The first brush covers the whole canvas. Each later brush is smaller and goes only where the image needs more detail.
- You steer it. Choose how many brushes to use, turn the Detail knob, brush over the parts that matter with Paint focus, and tint any brush a new color.
- Preview, then build. Everything happens live in the panel. Nothing touches your project until you click Paint.
Key Concepts
Brushes are the passes of the painting, from the coarse Underpaint to the fine final brush. You can use two to six. Each brush chip is tinted with the average color of its strokes.
Detail sets how fine the last brush gets and how picky Painted is about where to add more strokes. Low values give a loose sketch. High values give a tight, detailed painting.
Focus decides where the fine brushes go. Painted picks detailed, central areas on its own. Paint focus lets you choose instead.
The reveal is the timing of the animation. Each brush starts about halfway through the one before it, so the painting arrives in overlapping waves.
