Butthead puts stroke finishing controls in Motion Dock so you can shape line endings and corners without opening every Stroke in the timeline. It is a free micro tool.
Select a shape layer, then click a cap or join below the sample. Each action changes the selection immediately.
The sample's ends control arrowheads. The small ring controls taper. Click the straight part of the sample to change dashes.
Finish one stroke or a whole selection
Use Butt, Round, or Square caps to change line endings. Use Miter, Round, or Bevel joins to change corners. Select whole shape layers to edit their strokes together, or select a Stroke property to work on that stroke alone.
For a first result, round the ends of a practice line.
Put tips on a moving line
Arrowheads follow a pen path and turn with its direction. With Trim Paths, the tips travel with the drawn portion of the line. Choose a triangle, open chevron, dot, square, or bar at either end.
Keep the finish editable
Tapers and dashes use After Effects’ native stroke properties. Arrowheads are shape groups inside the same layer, linked to the line with expressions. Each action is one After Effects undo step.
