Lineup changes the layer stack without dragging layers one at a time. Use it to flip a selection, put numbered layers in order, or arrange the stack by timing, position, distance, or label. It is a free micro tool in Motion Dock.

Select at least two unlocked layers in an open composition, then click an action. Reverse flips their current stack order. The other buttons sort or shuffle them.

The dashed bars and Select layers caption are an example diagram until Lineup can read a usable selection.

Keep the gaps in your selection

Selected, unlocked layers trade places within the stack positions they already occupy. Unselected and locked layers keep their indices.

For example, select layers at positions 1, 3, and 5, then click Reverse. Those positions now hold the old layers 5, 3, and 1. Layers 2, 4, and 6 stay in place.

Lineup changes stack order, not layer timing or position values. Each action is one After Effects undo step.

Preview before you click

Hover over an action to preview its order in the diagram. Hold Shift over a sort to preview the opposite direction. Hovering leaves the timeline unchanged.

This example uses illustrative selection data. In After Effects, the preview reads your selected layers. The preview reference explains what the bars show.

To try it, reverse a small selection. For a specific result, choose a sort rule or reuse a shuffle seed.
