Add Nanny to Motion Dock

  1. Click Edit layout in Motion Dock’s top bar.
  2. Click an empty area of the layout and choose Nanny from the module picker.
  3. Click Exit layout mode to use the tool.

If Nanny is already in this layout, use its existing slot.

Give two layers a null

  1. Open a composition in After Effects. Use two visible, unlocked layers with no parents for this first try.
  2. Select both layers in the Timeline panel.
  3. Click Adopt without holding a modifier key.

A null named Nanny should appear above the selected layers. If that name already exists, Nanny adds a number. Both layers’ Parent & Link fields should point to the new null. Their visible positions stay the same, and the new null becomes selected.

Move the null in the Composition panel. Both layers now move with it. This is the shared control you created.

If Nanny asks you to select layers, select the timeline layers again. If it reports No active composition, activate the composition and retry. Locked layers are skipped; unlock both practice layers if only one was adopted.

To reverse an action, use Edit > Undo in After Effects. If you moved the null after adopting, undo that move first, then undo the adoption.
