Open Nanny settings
Click Edit layout, select Nanny’s slot, and click Module settings in the top bar. You can also double-click its slot while editing the layout. Close settings and click Exit layout mode to return to the tool.
Settings save as you change them. They apply to new nulls. Existing nulls keep their names, labels, and positions.
Null settings
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Null Name | Nanny | Base name for shared nulls, or the text added after a layer name for a null per layer. |
| Null Label | None | After Effects label color assigned to new nulls. |
| Null Placement | Bounds center | Default position for the shared null. The other option is Anchor average. See placement behavior. |
Names
Shared null names avoid names already used by any layer in the composition. With the default setting, the sequence is Nanny, Nanny 2, Nanny 3, using the first available number.
For a null per layer, Nanny adds the setting after the layer name, such as Title Nanny. These names do not receive extra numbers to prevent duplicates.
Leading and trailing spaces are removed from Null Name, and only its first 60 characters are used. A blank or spaces-only value uses Nanny when creating the null.
Label colors
Null Label offers these choices in order. Timeline colors follow your After Effects label preferences.
