Flower Layout
Petals arranges colors in a radial flower pattern. With six or more petals, one sits at the center and the rest form a ring around it. The layout automatically adjusts as you add or remove petals, and petals animate smoothly into their new positions with spring physics.
Hover near petals to see a proximity scale effect. Petals close to your cursor gently grow, giving you a visual sense of which one you're about to interact with.
Top Bar
The top bar provides palette-level controls:
- Palette name shows the current palette. Click the name to rename it.
- Undo / Redo steps through palette changes (color edits, adds, removes, reorders).
- Create new (plus icon) generates a fresh palette without leaving the current view.
- Browse palettes (folder icon) opens the preset viewer.
- Settings (gear icon) opens module settings.
When no palette is loaded, the top bar shows "No palette loaded" and only the browse button is available.
Floating Toolbar
The floating toolbar sits at the bottom of the panel. When a palette is active, it shows four controls:
- Add petal adds a new color that complements the existing palette.
- Remove petal removes the outermost unlocked petal.
- Shuffle (dice icon) regenerates all unlocked petal colors with an animated wave transition.
- More opens the functions dropdown for extraction, linking, and pruning operations.
Empty State
When you first open Petals or when no palettes exist, the panel shows a skeleton flower outline. The floating toolbar displays a single “Add a palette” button. Click it or double-click the background to create your first palette. The petals bloom in with a staggered animation.
Preset Viewer
The preset viewer organizes your palettes into two sections:
- Project palettes are saved with the current project file. Click one to load it. A linked indicator appears next to palettes that have active links in the current composition.
- Library palettes are stored globally across all projects. Click a library palette to copy it into the project and load it.
Each palette card shows a color bar preview and the palette name. Hover to reveal rename, save to library (or add to project), export, duplicate, and delete actions.
Responsive Behavior
Petals adapts to any panel size. The flower layout scales petal sizes and ring radii to fill the available space. The floating toolbar and top bar compact their spacing at narrower widths.
At very narrow panel sizes, some toolbar controls condense to fit. The flower layout remains usable down to the minimum panel size.
Settings
Click the gear icon in the top bar to open settings. See Settings Reference for all available options.
