Add Spellbound to Motion Dock
- Click Edit layout in Motion Dock’s top bar.
- Click an empty area of the layout and choose Spellbound from the module picker.
- Click Exit layout mode to use the tool.
If Spellbound is already in this layout, use its existing slot.
Split a practice layer
- Open a composition in After Effects 24.3 or later.
- Create a point text layer containing
Hello big world. Name the layerPractice. - Finish editing the text and select that layer in the Timeline. Leave it unlocked.
- Choose Words (W) in Spellbound, then click Split. In a narrow slot with just W, L, and A tiles, click W once to split immediately.
With the default options, the composition should look the same. The Timeline now has three selected text layers, Hello, big, and world, above the original. Each is parented to a new null named Practice words. The original is disabled and shy.
The success message reports Split into 3 words. Change the Position or Rotation of big to check that it moves independently. Move Practice words to move all three pieces together.
If your result includes shapes, missing originals, or delayed pieces, check the saved split options. Options persist between splits.
Undo the split
Immediately after splitting, use Edit > Undo in After Effects. One undo restores the original layer and removes the pieces and null. If you edited the pieces first, undo those edits before undoing the split.
If splitting does nothing, check the composition and selection first. No active composition means you need to open a comp. Select a text layer to split means Spellbound did not find selected, unlocked text. See other messages for locked or empty text.
