Open the split options

Click the sliders button, or the dotted handle in a narrow slot, to open Split options. Changes are saved as you make them.

Click outside, click the opener again, or press Escape to close the options.

You can also open Module settings for Spellbound while editing the Motion Dock layout. It exposes the same saved options through the settings labels below. Split by is selected through the mode tabs during normal use.

Saved options

SettingDefaultBehavior
Split byWordsMode used in the larger layout. Choices are Words, Lines, and Letters.
Letters as shapesOffConvert each letter through Create Shapes from Text. Only affects letter splitting. Alt temporarily reverses this choice.
Delete originalOffOn removes each successfully split original. Off keeps it with Shy on and video off.
Parent to a nullOnParent each original’s pieces to one null at that original’s anchor. Off keeps the original parent without an added null.
Stagger frames0Frames between pieces in reading order. Called Stagger in the drawer, with an f unit. Range 0 to 999, rounded to a whole frame. 0 is off.

The minus and plus buttons change Stagger by one frame. They stop at the range limits. You can type a number directly. Blank or nonnumeric input leaves the saved value unchanged, and leaving the field restores its saved display.

Options affect future splits. They do not update pieces already created. Undo the split and run it again to use different options.

See preparing pieces for animation for how parenting, source animation, and stagger interact.
