Renamer builds names for many layers or project items at once, with a live preview before you apply them. It is a free micro tool in Motion Dock.

Select layers in an open composition, or select comps, footage, and folders in the Project panel. The target chip tells you which selection Renamer is using.

The default pattern keeps each name. Nothing changes until you click Apply.

Build names once

Mix ordinary text with tokens. Shot {#} makes a numbered set. {name} v2 keeps the original names and adds a suffix.

Use find and replace to change part of a name, or change the case of token text. Both work together with the pattern.

Review the result

Changed text is highlighted in the preview. Locked layers keep their names. An exclamation mark warns when rows would share a name, but does not block Apply.

Start with three numbered layers. Each application is one After Effects undo step. Renaming project items changes their names in the project, leaving the files on disk in place.
