Add Snippy to Motion Dock

  1. Click Edit layout in Motion Dock’s top bar.
  2. Click an empty area of the layout and choose Snippy from the module picker.
  3. Click Exit layout mode to use the tool.

If Snippy is already in this layout, use its existing slot.

Trim one layer

  1. Open a 10-second composition in After Effects and add a solid that spans the full composition.
  2. Add Opacity keyframes at 2 seconds and 5 seconds. Select the solid in the Timeline panel and leave it unlocked.
  3. Set Snippy’s Pad field to 0. Double-click the number to type, then press Enter.
  4. Click To keys.

The solid’s in point should now be at 2 seconds and its out point at 5 seconds. The keyframes stay at their original times. A message reports how many layers were snipped.

Use Edit > Undo in After Effects to restore the original span. Each Snippy action is one undo step.

If you see No keyframes on these layers, check that the solid is selected and has keyframes. Select layers, or Alt-click for every unlocked layer means there is no layer selection. The trimming guide covers padding, markers, the playhead, and footage limits.
