Select the layers you want to change in the active composition. The targeting rules explain locked layers and using Alt with no selection.
Trim to animation
Click To keys to set each layer's in point to its first keyframe and its out point to its last. The keyframes themselves stay in place.
Snippy searches the layer's properties, including effects and masks. It uses all their keys, regardless of which keyframes are selected.
Layer markers and Time Remap keyframes are excluded from this search. Layers with no eligible keyframes are skipped. If none of the targets has eligible keys, you see No keyframes on these layers.
Pad adds the same number of frames before the first key and after the last. Positive values leave handles. Negative values tighten the span. With keys at 2 and 5 seconds, 3 frames of padding at 30 fps gives a span of 1.9 to 5.1 seconds. A single key gets at least one frame before source limits are applied.
Use the playhead or work area
| Goal | Action |
|---|---|
| Start layers at the current time | Move the playhead, then click In point. |
| End layers at the current time | Move the playhead, then click Out point. |
| Match both boundaries to the work area | Set the work area, then click Work area. |
These actions can shorten or lengthen the current layer span. They keep the layer’s source timing and keyframes in place. Pad does not apply.
The result must leave at least one frame and fit within the available source. For example, an out point cannot move before the layer’s in point. Invalid ranges are skipped. If no target can change, you may see Nothing to trim here. See source and range limits.
Use layer or comp markers
Click Markers to use each layer’s own markers. A layer with no markers uses the composition’s markers instead.
The in point uses the earliest marker. The out point uses the latest marker end, including marker durations. Pad applies around that range.
A single point marker has no duration. In that case, Snippy changes only the in point, including its padding, and keeps the current out point. A single duration marker can set both ends.
Layers with no available layer or comp markers are skipped. If no target has markers, you see No layer or comp markers.
Extend to the comp edges
Click Extend to lengthen out points toward the composition’s end. Shift-click Extend to lengthen in points toward its start. Extend only lengthens the chosen side. It leaves layers already reaching that edge alone.
For forward-playing video and precomp layers with Time Remap off, the available source limits how far they can extend. Time stretch is included in that limit. Still images, solids, and generated layers do not have this moving-source limit.
Alt-click Extend to enable Time Remap where a source limit prevents reaching the end. Shift+Alt-click does the same toward the start. This requires a layer that supports Time Remap. Snippy enables remapping and extends the boundary; it does not build a repeating loop.
The result message can include held by source (Alt remaps) when ordinary Extend reaches the source limit. Padding has no effect on Extend.
