Choose the reach of your change
Open the composition you want to start from. Choose Selected for its selected timeline layers, Comp for all its layers, or Nested to include all precomps inside it. Selection does not restrict Comp or Nested.
Nested follows precomp sources recursively and visits each comp once, even when several layers use it. Hidden or disabled precomp layers still lead to their source comps. Changing a shared precomp also affects any other composition that uses that same source.
Set a common value
For example, choose Nested, then click Motion blur to enable it across the tree. If every eligible layer already has it on, a normal click turns it off instead. Alt-click forces it off regardless of the current mix. Alt is Option on a Mac keyboard.
A mixed tile represents different values in the scope. Clicking an ordinary on/off switch makes every eligible layer on. It does not invert each layer separately.
Hover to check the current value and eligible layer and comp counts. Locked layers skipped by the operation appear as a separate count.
Quality and Frame blend cycle through values instead. Their exact order and mixed-state behavior are in the controls reference.
Locked layers are skipped by default, except by Lock itself. Unlock them or enable Include Locked Layers in Settings. No layers here take that switch means the scope has no eligible layers. Choose a suitable layer type from the reference before retrying.
Control comp switches
Turning layer motion blur or frame blending on also enables the related comp switch in comps with eligible target layers. Turning the layer switch off leaves the comp switch as it is.
Hold Shift over Motion blur, Frame blend, or Shy to inspect its comp control. Shift-click changes that comp control without changing the layer switches. Selected and Comp affect the active comp; Nested affects every comp in the tree. Selected still requires at least one selected layer.
For example, Shift-click Motion blur to disable comp motion blur while retaining the layer flags. Shift+Alt-click forces the comp switch off. Shift-click Shy controls Hide shy layers; ordinary Shy changes layer flags without automatically hiding them.
The result message reports changed layers or comps and any locked layers skipped. To reverse the operation, use Edit > Undo. Return the pointer to Switched afterward to update the dots.
