I cannot find Switched in the module picker

Check the current layout for an existing Switched slot. Use that slot, or remove it before adding the tool elsewhere.

Switched says No active composition

Open a composition and bring it forward in After Effects, then return the pointer to Switched. Selecting a comp in the Project panel alone may not make it the active composition.

The bottom hint can read No active comp, and a tile may briefly show No comp. Switch changes and starting Draft need an active comp. Restoring existing Draft memory does not.

Switched says Select layers first

Selected needs timeline layers selected in the active comp, even when Shift-clicking a comp switch. Select them again or choose Comp or Nested. A brief No selection badge means the same thing.

Switched says Those layers are locked

All otherwise eligible targets were skipped because they are locked. Unlock them or enable Include Locked Layers in Settings.

A successful result ending in N locked skipped means other layers changed, but those locked layers did not. Lock itself can always unlock locked layers.

Switched says No layers here take that switch

The scope has no layers that support the requested switch. For example, Audio needs audio-bearing layers, and Frame blend excludes still sources. Check the eligible layer types. The tile can show None or None here briefly.

A switch looks on but the result is not visible

Check the exact state in its tooltip and the appropriate comp switch. Shift-hover and Shift-click expose Comp motion blur, Comp frame blending, and Hide shy layers. Motion blur also needs motion to show a visible result. Switched sets the switches without creating animation.

The dots are out of date after undo or a timeline edit

Move the pointer out of Switched and back in, or return focus to the panel. State is read on those events and after Switched actions, rather than continuously while you edit the timeline.

Draft says Nothing here to suspend

There are no eligible enabled effects or expressions to suspend and no full-resolution comps to halve. Check the scope, Draft Keeps, and locked-layer setting. Already disabled effects and expressions do not need suspension.

Draft can be on with a zero badge if only resolution changed. Click Draft normally to restore that change. Draft mode is already off, or an Off badge, means no saved memory was available for restoration.

Draft turns off when I want to include more layers

Alt-click Draft while it is on. A normal click restores the whole remembered set. Choose the new scope or selection before Alt-clicking.

Draft cannot remember or read the project

Project XMP is unavailable, so Draft could not remember anything means After Effects could not provide the project metadata Draft needs before suspension. Project XMP is unavailable, so Draft could not read its memory means restoration could not access it.

Do not manually enable every effect as a substitute for restoration, since some were intentionally off. Save a copy of the project and reopen After Effects before retrying. Layer switches do not use Draft’s memory.

Draft reports N no longer found

Some recorded comps, layers, effects, or expression properties no longer match the saved targets. Remaining targets are restored and the memory is cleared. Restore before changing effect order or property structure. The Draft restore guide explains the limitations and undo recovery.

Draft leaves the comp at a different resolution

Only Full comps were changed to Half. Restoration returns those comps to Full only while they are still at Half. A resolution you changed to Quarter or a custom value during Draft is left alone.

Switched reports an unexpected error

For Switched could not finish, Draft could not finish, or another host error, inspect the composition before retrying. An error can follow a partial change. Use After Effects’ undo history to reverse the action when needed, then return to Switched to refresh its state.
