Select the text layer you want to adjust. Right-click the keyboard Apply button to open the full options. If it already has Clickety, edits take effect immediately. Otherwise choose your options and click Apply.
cps sets characters per second. Longer text takes longer. At 10 cps, Hello takes half a second.
sec sets the total time. At 2 sec, the reveal takes two seconds even after you change the words.
Choose a pace
Double-click Speed to enter a value, then press Enter. The controls reference lists the ranges and drag shortcuts.
Words and Lines still use character-based timing. Longer words or lines receive more time than shorter ones. Jitter varies the gaps between arrivals without changing the total duration. A value of 0% is even; higher values make timing less regular.
For Lines, insert explicit line breaks in your text. The timing groups use line-break characters. Text that only wraps automatically can disagree with those groups.
Start from the in point or playhead
In point begins the reveal at each layer’s in point. At CTI begins at the current-time indicator, the playhead, when you apply it or switch to that option on an existing Clickety layer.
Moving the playhead afterward does not move the saved start. To choose a new start on an existing layer, move the playhead, select In point, then select At CTI again. Put the playhead within the layer’s visible time.
Type the text back out
Choose Type out to reverse the chosen reveal near the layer’s out point. Choose Stay to leave the completed text visible. The outgoing animation uses the same pace and jitter as the incoming animation and finishes one composition frame before the out point.
Leave room for both animations. A two-second reveal and a two-second exit need more than four seconds of layer time after the start if you want a readable hold between them. When they overlap, the text may never become fully visible.
Delete is an exit-only style. The text is visible before the deletion starts, then disappears backward. Its start and Stay controls are disabled because its timing always comes from the out point.
Add markers for sound
Enable Sound marks in Module settings, then apply Clickety. It places layer markers with the comment key at arrivals and, when enabled, departures. It does not add audio.
After editing the text or changing a layer’s in or out point in After Effects, apply again to rebuild the markers. The animation responds to those edits, but existing markers do not move themselves.
