Main controls

Right-click the keyboard Apply button or the main sample to open every animation option. The compact cycling style and cursor buttons also open these options on right-click. Individual style and cursor chips do not. Close with the X, Escape, or a click outside.

With no existing Clickety layer selected, your choices are saved for the next apply. With Clickety layers selected, edits affect those layers. They do not replace the saved setup for new layers.

TypeCharacters appear one at a time. Spaces count toward timing; line breaks do not count as keystrokes.
WordsWhole words pop in. Words are separated by whitespace; longer words take longer to arrive.
LinesLines fade in and rise from below. The default rise is 24 px. Use explicit line breaks for predictable timing.
FadeCharacters fade in with a soft overlap. Three characters overlap by default.
DeleteCharacters disappear backward, finishing one frame before the layer’s out point.

The rise and overlap are set in Module settings.

Controls in After Effects

The layer has one Clickety text animator, with Clickety and Cursor selectors, and one Clickety effect. A cursor also adds a Source Text expression. These are the parts removed by Remove.

Effect controlMeaning
SpeedCharacters per second or total seconds, as chosen by Pace.
PaceChars per second or Total seconds.
JitterTiming unevenness as a percentage.
CursorOff, Bar, Underscore, or Block. Use the panel to enable a cursor if Clickety was applied with it off, so the Source Text expression is added too.
BlinkSeconds per full blink cycle; zero keeps the cursor solid.
DelaySeconds relative to the in point before incoming typing begins. Defaults to 0. At CTI writes the difference between the playhead time and in point. Negative values start before the in point.

Slot layouts

A larger slot shows all five styles, the sample, speed, cursor choices, and Apply. With enough width and height, it also shows Jitter, Blink, and start and exit toggles.

A short row keeps the controls on one line. As space shrinks, the style and cursor choices become cycling buttons. Right-click for every option.

The narrowest layout has two tiles. The keyboard applies the current setup. Cursor turns the remembered glyph off or on. Right-click either tile to reach all the controls.
