I see No comp or No text

No active composition means a composition must be active in After Effects. Open it and select its text layers in the Timeline.

Select a text layer to type on appears when nothing is selected or the selection contains no text layers. Select a text layer to clear is the same requirement for removal. Non-text layers are ignored in a mixed selection.

A layer is skipped or locked

Layer is locked or Selected layers are locked means you need to unlock the layer in the Timeline and retry. Other unlocked text layers can still be processed. Apply reports the first skipped layer and the number of further skips.

Skipped can also indicate an expression error on that layer. See the expression-error guidance below.

Nothing happens when I use Remove

No Clickety here to remove, sometimes shortened to Nothing, means the selected text layers have no Clickety animation to clear. Select the animated layers.

The panel shows another layer’s values or says Gone

Move out of Clickety and back in, or return focus to the panel after selecting the layer again. Clickety refreshes its selection when entered or focused.

Those Clickety layers are gone or No Clickety layer to adjust means the stored targets are no longer available for adjustment. Reselect an existing Clickety layer. With several layers selected, displayed values come from the first Clickety layer, and edits affect all selected Clickety layers. Select just one to inspect it alone.

My new text layer does not change with the controls

When the selection contains existing Clickety layers, control changes adjust those layers only. Select the new text layer by itself and click Apply, or click Apply on the mixed selection to apply the displayed setup to all its unlocked text layers.

The text never finishes typing

The reveal needs more time than the layer provides. Extend the out point, increase cps, or shorten sec. A longer edit takes longer in cps mode.

If Type out is on, leave enough time for the incoming animation, a hold, and the exit. Overlapping animations can keep the text from ever becoming fully visible. A start set with At CTI also leaves less time before the out point.

Moving the playhead does not move the start

At CTI saves a delay when applied or chosen. To reset it on an existing layer, move the playhead, choose In point, then choose At CTI again. Delete always uses the out point, so its start controls are disabled.

Lines arrive at unexpected times

Insert explicit line breaks instead of relying only on automatic paragraph wrapping. Clickety’s timing counts line-break characters, while After Effects’ line selector follows rendered lines.

The cursor is solid or missing

The cursor is solid during typing and blinks while idle. A Blink value of 0 keeps it solid. Pick a glyph other than ∅ to enable it.

If Clickety was applied with no cursor, turn the cursor on through the panel. Changing only Cursor in After Effects’ Effect Controls does not add the needed Source Text expression.

A layer types without its cursor

The cursor needs Clickety’s own Source Text expression. If the layer already has your Source Text expression, Clickety keeps yours, types the layer without a cursor and says so in its toast. Removing Clickety leaves your expression in place. To get a cursor, move your expression to a duplicate layer or clear it first.

Sound markers no longer match the words

Apply again after editing text or changing in and out points. The animation responds to those edits, but the layer markers are fixed times. To remove markers, switch Sound marks off in Module settings and apply again. Check the marker limits before using the comment key for your own markers.

Fade overlap or Line slide does not change the layer

Those settings are used when the animator is built. Changing the settings alone does not rebuild existing layers. Select the layers and click Apply again.

The sample does not play or looks different from my comp

Give the slot enough space to show the sample, then hover over Clickety or change an animation option to replay it. It plays once per trigger. The sample uses its own words and timing window. Preview the composition to assess your text, wrapping, and layer duration.

I see Expression error or Not done

Undo the action if it changed the layer, then retry on a duplicate of a simple text layer. On Apply, Clickety checks its expressions and removes its newly built setup from a layer that fails. The skip message includes Expression error: and After Effects’ detail.

If a live adjustment fails, undo before retrying. For Nothing to adjust, refresh the selection and make a new change. Not done, Nothing to type on, or another host error means the operation did not report a completed result. Close the full options and retry from the main panel to see the accompanying message, then inspect the layer before applying again.
