Clickety animates text on its own layer, so you can build a typewriter reveal and still change the words later. It is a free micro tool in Motion Dock.

Select a text layer, choose Type, and click the keyboard button to apply. The default reveals 18 characters per second from the layer's in point, with a bar cursor.

The sample shows the chosen style. Hover over the panel to watch it play.

Choose how the text arrives

Use Type for individual keystrokes, Words for whole words, Lines for a rising line reveal, or Fade for overlapping character fades. Delete starts with the text visible and removes it backward near the layer’s out point.

The first type-on takes one short text layer from still text to an editable animation.

Keep the timing under control

Choose a typing speed in cps, or use sec to fit the reveal into a fixed duration. Add uneven timing with Jitter, choose a cursor, and turn on Type out when the text should leave before the layer ends. The timing guide explains how these choices work together.

Return and adjust

Select a layer with Clickety and return to the panel. It reads the layer’s controls back, and your changes affect that selection immediately. The full options panel shows live while editing existing Clickety layers.

The text stays on its original layer. Clickety adds an animator and controls rather than splitting characters into separate layers. You can edit the words, change the cursor, or remove the animation later.
