Select the counter to edit it live

Select an Odo text layer or rolling counter in the active comp, then move the pointer into Odo. The panel reads its first and last values, format, look, and stored ease. A dot beside the preview means you are editing that counter live. Hover the dot to see its layer name. The options drawer also shows live and the name.

Changing a field, format, ease, or look updates the selected counter immediately. Apply reapplies the current choices. With no counter selected, changes are saved as a draft for future counters.

Odo works on one target per action. If several layers are selected, it prefers the first Odo counter it finds, then the first ordinary text layer. Select only the intended layer when editing.

Change the timing

  1. Select the counter in After Effects.
  2. Open its Odo effect, or Odo · Roll for rolling digits.
  3. Reveal the Value keyframes in the timeline.
  4. Move the keys to change when the count starts and ends.

The generated expression follows those keys. A new counter starts at time 0, even if the playhead is later. Converting an existing text layer starts at its in point. The Count Length setting supplies the initial gap between the two keys.

When Odo updates a counter with at least two keys, it keeps their times and intermediate values. It replaces the first and last values with From and To, then applies the chosen ease to every segment. This also happens during format edits. Custom keyframe easing is overwritten by a panel update.

Add more stops

For a count of 0 → 50 → 100, create a 0 → 50 counter, then add a third Value key of 100 later in the timeline. It will count between each pair of keys. Odo reads the first and last keys as its endpoints when you return to the panel.

For large counts, Odo scales the keys with Multiplier. The displayed value is Value × Multiplier. Check that multiplier before entering key values manually. A multiplier of 1000 means a Value key of 1250 displays 1,250,000 before formatting.

Choose the motion

EaseFeel
LinearAn even, steady count.
SmoothEases in and out.
SettleStarts fast and lands gently. This is the default.
SnappyA quick, decisive snap.
ExpoMakes most of the change early, followed by a long glide.

The panel preview always runs for about 1.1 seconds. It illustrates the chosen ease and format, independently of the comp’s keyframe timing.

Create another counter

Shift-click the main action to create a new layer using the displayed choices. It gets a fresh pair of keys and the current Count Length. It does not copy extra stops or custom timing from the selected counter.

Each application or live update has its own After Effects undo group, named Odo: Apply or Odo: Update. Undo reverses that action; move the pointer back into Odo to refresh its readout.
