I see No comp

There is no active composition. Open the intended comp in its viewer, then click the action again. The full message is No active composition.

I see Locked

The selected target is locked. Unlock it or select another layer. Odo leaves the locked layer unchanged and does not create a replacement. Shift-click the main action if you intend to create a separate counter.

I see Gone

That counter is gone or No counter to update means a live edit could not find its target. Select the counter in the active comp again and move the pointer into Odo to refresh it. If it was deleted, create a new counter.

I see Numbers only

Roll supports plain numbers. Alt-clicking the action while using Compact or a time style can show Numbers only, with the message Roll counts plain numbers · switch Style to Number. Open ⋯, choose 123 under Style, then try again. Choosing Roll under Look selects that style automatically.

The panel changed my counter before I clicked Apply

A selected Odo counter is edited live. The preview’s dot identifies this state. Deselect the counter before preparing a separate draft, or use Shift-click to create another layer. Undo an unwanted live update in After Effects.

Odo changed a different layer, or created a new one

Odo chooses one supported target, preferring a selected Odo counter over an ordinary text layer. It does not batch-apply to all selected layers. If only unsupported layers are selected, it creates a counter. Select just the text layer or Odo counter you mean to edit.

The count starts before the playhead, or ends beyond my layer

New layers start their count at time 0. Existing text layers start at their in point. Odo does not fit the count to the remaining layer or comp duration. Move the Value keys, or extend the layer or comp so the final key is visible.

Changing Count Length affects new key pairs. It leaves existing timing in place. See Edit and retime a counter.

The preview runs faster than the comp

The panel preview has a fixed duration of about 1.1 seconds. It is a format and ease preview. Your comp follows the actual Value keys. For a clock that tracks seconds evenly, use Linear and match the keyframe span to the difference between its values.

The frame digits differ between the panel and comp

The ss.ff preview uses 30 fps. The expression uses the comp’s frame rate rounded to a whole number. Check the output in the comp, especially at fractional frame rates. See the time style rules.

The currency, percent, or units look wrong

Prefix and suffix text is literal. A percent sign does not scale the count, and Odo does not add spaces around custom text. Check Text, Group, Mark, and Places in ⋯. The + placeholders beside the preview are empty text fields; use Sign for positive signs.

My roll lost edits, or broke after a rename

Panel updates rebuild the roll’s internal layers, replacing manual edits there. Name-based references can break after renaming the outer comp or counter layer. Select the outer counter and click Apply roll to rebuild it. See Make digits roll for shared precomps and conversion limits.

I see Error or the expression failed

Expression error: is followed by the error After Effects reported. Inspect the counter’s Source Text expression and Odo effect. Undo the action if it left an unwanted partial result, then retry with an unlocked plain text layer or create a fresh counter.

If only Not done or a generic Odo could not finish, Odo: Apply failed, or Odo: Update failed appears, inspect the active comp and undo any partial changes before retrying. While the options drawer is open, feedback stays in its action badges and toast messages are suppressed. Close the drawer before retrying if you need the full message.
