Add Springy to Motion Dock
- Click Edit layout in Motion Dock’s top bar.
- Click an empty area of the layout and choose Springy from the module picker.
- Click Exit layout mode to use the tool.
If Springy is already in this layout, use its existing slot. Give it enough height to show the preview, controls, and Apply button.
Make a simple move
- Open a composition and add a solid or shape layer. Leave the layer unlocked.
- Set a Position keyframe at 0 seconds. Move forward to 0.5 seconds, move the layer to the right, and set a second keyframe.
- Leave these two keys linear for this example. Select the Position property name in the timeline.
- Choose Overshoot in Springy. Leave its controls at their defaults.
- Click Apply Overshoot, or Apply if the slot is narrow.
Preview the comp beyond the second key. The layer should move right, spring past the keyed position, and settle back. The original two keys remain in place.
Needs at least 2 keyframes means the targeted property does not have both keys. Select Position again and check its timeline. No active composition means you need to open the comp in a viewer before applying.
Adjust the result
A ring appears on Overshoot. The controls highlight, and Bake and Remove replace Apply when the whole selection uses that behavior.
Drag Bounce to change the overshoot amount. Release to update the layer. Increase Settle to bring it to rest sooner.
Use Edit > Undo in After Effects to reverse an adjustment or the application. To keep the original keys but remove the extra motion, click Remove.
