Springy says No comp or No selection

No active composition means the active project item is not a composition. Open the intended comp in a viewer.

Select a layer or property to give it life, Select a layer or property to remove Springy from, and Select a layer or property to bake mean the composition selection is empty. Select an unlocked layer or the exact property in its timeline, then try again. Compact badges shorten these messages to No comp or No selection.

Springy skips a property

The apply toast identifies the first skipped property and reason. A suffix such as (+2 more) means additional properties were skipped. Eligible properties can still be changed in the same action.

Nothing to apply means no target was changed and Springy has no more specific skip reason to show. Select an expression-capable numeric property, then retry.

ReasonCause and fix
Needs at least 2 keyframesOvershoot or Bounce needs two keys on the targeted property. Add them or select the intended keyed property. The compact badge says Needs 2 keys.
Layer is lockedUnlock the layer. The compact badge says Locked.
Has its own expressionSpringy preserved another expression. Review Replace Other Expressions before allowing an overwrite. The badge says Has expression.
Position isn’t movingSquash found neither two Position keys nor a Position expression. Animate Position first. The badge says Not moving.
No Scale to squashThat layer has no usable Scale property. Choose a layer with Scale.
Can’t hold Springy controlsThe layer cannot hold effects. Use a layer that supports Effect Controls.
That’s a Springy controlYou selected one of Springy’s own controls as the target. Select the property you want to animate.
Can’t take an expressionThe property does not support expressions. Choose an expression-capable property.
Not a number propertyThe property has an unsupported value type, such as text or a path. Select a numeric property. The badge says Not a number.
Expression error: …After Effects rejected the generated expression. Springy restores the target’s previous expression. Read the error text and try a supported transform property.

The action succeeded, but I cannot see motion

Select the exact property and inspect it in the timeline. Whole-layer selection uses behavior-specific targets.

For Overshoot or Bounce, check arrival speed and amount. For Loop, two keys and time outside the keyed range are required to see an extension. For Wiggle, check amount, speed, and axis selection. For Squash, check X/Y speed and Direction.

Squash’s initial check accepts two Position keys even when their values are identical, and accepts a Position expression even when it produces a constant value. Those cases still need actual motion to stretch.

Changing one property changes another

Properties using the same behavior on the same layer share controls. This is expected. See editing existing behaviors for shared values and multiple selected layers.

Bake and Remove are missing

They appear only when every inspected target uses the chosen behavior. Select the exact Springy property, then choose its behavior tile. Right-click that tile if your slot only shows icons.

Whole-layer read-back inspects Transform and Effects. If the behavior is on a property elsewhere in the layer, select that exact property so the panel can read it.

Springy says Nothing to remove or Nothing to bake

The full toast says No Springy behavior to remove or No Springy behavior to bake. Select properties with Springy expressions, or select only the layers to include all their Springy properties. An unrelated expression is not a Springy behavior.

Selected layers are locked means every selected layer available to the action was locked. Unlock the intended layers. With a mixed locked and unlocked selection, unlocked layers can succeed while locked layers are silently skipped. Check the locked layers separately.

A live adjustment says the layer is gone or locked

Those layers are gone means the layer read by the panel no longer exists. Select the current layer, then reenter Springy or focus its panel to refresh. Layer is locked means the live controls cannot be written until you unlock it.

When several layers are being adjusted, locked layers can be skipped while the others update.

The preview stopped, or it looks different from my comp

The dot demonstrates a sample motion, not your composition. It plays a limited number of cycles, then rests. Leave and reenter the tool or change a control to replay. Your composition’s result depends on its real keys and property values.

Baking changed motion outside the work area

Bake writes samples inside the work area, then removes the expression from the whole property. Undo the bake and extend the work area to include all the motion you need. For missing detail between samples, lower Bake Every. See baking to keys.

Springy reports an unexpected error

The toast may contain an After Effects error or Springy: Apply failed, Springy: Adjust failed, Springy: Remove failed, or Springy: Bake failed. Inspect the affected properties before retrying. If the action changed the project before failing, use After Effects’ undo history.

Unknown Springy behavior or No Springy layer to adjust indicates an invalid or stale request rather than an animation setting. Reselect the property and reopen the panel if needed. A short Skipped, Not done, or Gone badge is a summary; use its accompanying toast for the cause.
