Check which source will remain

Click Scan, then open Duplicates. Each row represents a project item Tidy can remove by replacing its layer references with another source.

Read Same as beneath each name. The source named there is the survivor. Click a row to select the duplicate in the Project panel.

Tidy chooses the survivor automatically. Use the report to check that choice before proceeding. Exact matching rules and survivor priorities are documented in Findings.

Merge the reported duplicates

Click the wand beside Duplicates. Tidy replaces layers’ source references with the survivor, then removes the duplicate project item. Selecting a row does not restrict the merge to that item.

Folder scope limits which sources are compared. A duplicate’s layers can belong to comps elsewhere in the project, and Tidy updates those references too. Check those comps when reviewing the result.

Handle locked layers

By default, a locked layer using a duplicate blocks the entire merge for that duplicate. Tidy leaves that source and all of its references together, then reports the skipped locked layers.

Unlock the affected layers, or enable Merge into locked layers in Settings. With that setting on, Tidy temporarily unlocks layers to replace their sources and restores their locks afterward. Scan again before retrying.

Items inside the Protected folder are never removed as duplicates, though a protected item can be the survivor. After merging, Tidy refreshes the report. If duplicates remain, check Troubleshooting before running another pass.
